Senate adjourns until Monday.
Conflicting ideas swirled around in the Senate that resulted in blocking plans to provide hundreds of billions of dollars to help small businesses.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell tried to pass an additional $250 billion for the Paycheck Protection Program. “The country cannot afford unnecessary wrangling,” he said on the Senate floor. “The country needs to be nimble. My colleagues must not treat working Americans as political hostages… We cannot play games with this crisis.”
The minority offered a different plan, that would include $100 billion for hospitals, $150 billion for state and local governments, and an expansion of food assistance, in addition to the small business funding.
Additional funding for the Paycheck Protection Program is now at an impasse, while the House is putting together a plan of their own, according to Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
The Senate has now adjourned for the Easter weekend, and will return Monday.
